The Williamsburg Wedding
Thanks to those of you who helped with logistics for our DC-to-Williamsburg trip for a wedding. As things turned out, Hurricane Mathew required that the wedding be moved up a day. We learned about it on a Monday, with the original date the following Saturday. Our flight was on Thursday, and we had planned to take the train down from DC on Friday and attend the wedding on Saturday. Well--that didn't work: the train was cancelled (just as some of you warned), and so we decided to bite the bullet and drive both ways. We got to Williamsburg at 3:00, having been lost while looking for the Inn, but changed and got to the wedding site, the botanical garden, on time.
Because a number of guests weren't able to make the date change, attendance was small. So an intimate, beautiful wedding with the reception at the interpretative center, out on a large patio with a massive fireplace. The weather cooperated, and it was a very good thing that the date was changed: the following day, the original wedding day, brought pouring rain all day.
Our two days at the Williamsburg Inn were delightful--so far that's the most perfect hotel at which we have stayed. Such attention to detail and pleasant people--and a jazz duo at breakfast on Sunday. Could have stayed there for the entire week.

Given your preference for a well planned outing, I think you were an extremely good sport about everything the weather threw at you to disrupt your trip. Glad it worked out and the wedding sounds like a lovely event.
We left the Outer Banks, as non residents were asked to do, on Friday and thought we'd be returning Monday morning but got stalled until Wednesday as our house was inaccessible b/c of ponding water. Crazy week.
I saw that you posted in the Lounge that you went AWOL into Maryland when trying to find Old Towne Alexandria. Not the first time that has happened to someone...

Oh yes, that would be so easy to do. Get into the wrong lane and you're over the bridge in no time...unless you're caught in a 3 hour stoppage because a cement truck overturned. Sigh.
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Are the restaurants done at the Inn? I know they are doing a big overhaul on the dining room.

The Regency Room seems to be done--and it is quite beautiful. But then I don't know what it was like before. However, the atmosphere is serene and you can actually hear your table companion talk, which these days is rare indeed.
