Don't waste your money staying at the Westin Indianapolis. The hotel is centrally located but the service is horrible and the management is unresponsive. We arrived on a late flight after twice confirming our reservation and notifying hotel staff we'd be a late arrival. When we arrived we were told that our room had been given away. We were also told it was our fault because we were late and that the rooms were first come, first served. We made our reservations 3 months in advance. We stayed across the street at the Hyatt. GREAT HOTEL!!, lower price, and more service included in the cost. I called the hotel the next day to speak with the manager. I was told he would call me back. I'm still waiting.
The Westin Indianapolis is HORRIBLE!

I was told that if you have a guaranteed reservation -- one that according to the reservation will be charged to your credit card if you don't show up, that you are entitled to that same amount of money if you show up and they haven't held it for you. I'm not sure how you collect that -- but it is supposed to be their legal obligation.
On the other hand if you did not give them credit card information and do not have in writing that you would be charged if you didn't show up, then I doubt there is little you can do.
If you had a guaranteed room (gtd to a credit card) and Westin didn't have availability, it USED TO BE their policy to pay for your room at another hotel and bring you back the next day (if applicable) with an upgrade. You mentioned the lower rate at the Hyatt, which implies you paid for the room.
I'd ask Westin their cancellation policies...if they ever call you back!
