The road to Reno is paved with… lost luggage!

Our adventures started even before we boarded the train. We got on Amtrak bus that took us to the train. On the highway leading to Bay Bridge a woman started to yell out to the driver: luggage is falling out! He stopped in the left lane, another bus pulled next to us blocking the next lane, the driver got out, walked back on the highway to pick up all lost suitcases. This time he closed the luggage door properly. Everybody stayed calm, just sat there waiting for the driver to come back, and we all greeted him with the round of applause.

This time we stayed at Eldorado, the closest to Amtrak station after Harrah’s. Surprise, surprise, there is a coffeemaker in the room – usually casinos don’t have them. I would like to have a softer bed, and there was no mirror in the room – so I couldn’t apply makeup while my husband was in the shower… but everything else was there: flat screen TV, 3 pillows on each bed, a large bathroom counter with enough space for everything. Different places to eat from a coffee counter to steakhouse. Buffet got long line at times.

We did a whole lot of nothing! It was very hot, I am not used to it, didn’t feel like going anywhere. Spent most of the time by the pool, my poor husband is peeling his arms off In the casino we only play penny slots 5 lines at a time, so we probably broke even, we didn’t really care.

The highlight of our trip, in addition to the excitement of the lost luggage, was the get-together with Fodorite Friends. Everybody was there, even Kal eventually found his way to the buffet I don’t think the 3 hour lunch beat the record. We had a lot to talk about. It was nice to see everyone, and the next year’s GTG will be in South Tahoe!

No photos from me, as I broke my camera right before the trip. A piece of plastic broke off so I can’t close the batteries compartment. Cannot even put a Band-Aid on it as this will cover some buttons needed for taking photos. By the next GTG I will have a camera for sure (yes, it’s a threat and a warning!

OMG that's hysterical. Glad he was able to locate everyones luggage and undies weren't strewn over lanes of traffic.

It was so hot over the weekend. Last night was a long lightening storm in the sierra.

Report too short, we need more info, I'm sure you left out all the good parts!

No, Linda, what happens in Reno goes on Facebook - these is a t-shirt slogan they are selling.

Who was there:
Creefloors
Dayenu
Holly_Uncasdewar
JanisJ
Kal
LindaL

Report is short as we just talked at the GTG. Honest.

Michelle, it was July 21 - I posted somewhere in "where are you going next month" thread in the Lounge, did not do a separte GTG thread, and my e-mail is in my profile, if you want to know about the next one.

As an added bonus, your luggage will receive an interactive freeway tour at no extra charge. I hope yours was spared! Sorry your camera broke. You take alllllllllll the time you need to find a replacement. Anytime after September 6th will be just fine. ;-)

Darn, darn, darn...janis, you are NOT supposed to win. LOL The Corano family owns the Elderado and is in a partnership with others in the Silver Legacy and the Silver Legacy filed for bankruptcy. I sort of think of the Eldorado and the Silver Legacy being in the same "pot". They need that money.!!!!

Dayenu as always you are very funny. I have had lost luggage 8 times on planes but my luggage never fell out of the plane, it was misdirected and later recovered. These things can only happen to you my friend.

Is a date set yet for the Tahoe GTG? I would love to join the fun if possible.

We can start planning - when can you come?

We can do it on weekends, sort of Friday-Monday long weekend, maybe not the very last w/end of the month nor the very 1st - month-end in accounting.

Any time from May through... maybe October should be good.

And thank you for making me feel special
