As a Lynchburg native, I return there frequently, and would like to recommend a hotel for those who might visit, the Kirkley on Candlers Mountain Road.
On our last visit, the owner of the hotel welcomed us in the lobby and
made sure we were looked after. I don't recall that ever happening
anywhere else.
Besides the high degree of cleanliness, friendly staff, and good rooms, the pool
is something else, it is large and features a hot tub and nice
furniture around it. My wife and child spent an enjoyable time in the
heated water, a refreshing change from the cold and rainy day outside.
I use the free Internet and laptop in the lobby and enjoy some rather
good coffee early in the morning. We chose this one mainly because of
the very moderate price, but ended up with features that match
anything else out there.
I plan to add photographs and other material on my hometown in general, which has a storied role in Virginia's history, and is a mere 20 miles from Appomattox.
The Kirkley is a great hotel if you are visiting Lynchburg
