We are blessed to have visited this island a couple of time. Love it. Love the people. Love hanging in Lanai City and talking story.
Well it's 89 old caretaker has passed to torch to a new neighbor, home owner. I trust he has the best interest in the island and its people with this purchase. Murdoch was bleeding 25 million a year protecting the island. Hopefully Ellison will continue to respect the aina and not bleed so much money.
Times are changing. I hope they don't change too much and the integrity of the island and the rural joy remains. But change will come. I cannot imagine Garden of the Gods with windmills. But electricity is needed in the middle of the Pacific.
Time will tell.

hope he brings back sustainable agriculture. Beautiful island, my favorite.
I had a group who wanted to buy the Hotels about 10 years ago - but didn't happen. We shall see.
mat - I agree, it is prime soil that has rested after the closing of the pines, to be nurtured for local and exported consumption. sadly from what I hear, the locals are very concerned about the new owners intentions.
I do find a certain irony in articles stating that the locals want to protect the hawaiian culture considering most of the people were plantation workers and now resort workers who are not hawaiian. Not a judgment, because I cherish each moment I had the chance to talk story with locals.
agree LG, there is a lot of cultural sites on the island but don't know how many actual Hawaiians are there to take care of them.
Well the new "owner" has some very interesting ideas.

Wonder how that works.... Is Ellison actually buying the dirt, or just a long-term lease? And I wonder what he means in saying he wants the Four Seasons at Manele to go "off the grid."
