The Hot club/lounge today!
New yorkers!
help me out here! what is THE hotspot today - preferably in the Meatpacking or lower east side. Looking for a spot to celebrate my 30th on friday july 28th with 4 friends (from SF!!). Is Libation good? (Prefer hip hop music to dance to. )
for rooftop bars on saturday night - since it's summer and all - the Park, 230 Fifth, Bed and Paramount bar are on my lists- any recommendations?
For restaurants looking for great thai, indian and italian picks in the village..or any middle eastern places with belly dancing?.
any help would be awesome!
thanks!

I know from my daughter that Butter is THE place to try to be seen - or see those you want to see - at least this week. Don;t know the music. But Fri and Sat night are off-times for celebs - they're all in the Hamptons.

Go to Spice Market in the meatpacking district to eat and then try some of the bars/clubs there after. Gansevoort hotel rooftop pool/bar. It's true, July weekends in Manhattan are quiet.

All weekends in Manhattan are amateur nights, and in July/August even more so.
At the Gansevoort, in addition to the rooftop bar, the G Spa lounge is very hot. You should be able to get in.
Otherwise check Sheckys, Citysearch & Time Out New York for club ideas. (Most all of the big dance clubs are in Chelsea.)
Enjoy!

I'm too far on the opposite end of 30's to possibly think I'm hip, but I'm gonna dive in anyway...
Spice Market is fun. I also like Son Cubano in the Meatpacking district for good food, yummy drinks (especially the mango mojito-dangerous!!), then they clear the tables from the floor and there's dancing late night... For belly dancing, try Le Souk in the East Village. If you're in town on a Monday, l'Orange Bleu on the corner of Crosby & Broome has a Moroccan prix-fixe plus belly dancing.
Have fun!!

Libation has turned into a huge bridge and tunnel crowd, Stanton Social upstairs is better (IMO).
Look on www.sheckys.com to see the other bars. 230 Fifth is just okay, I would definitely go to Park.
Just a question, how old are you, or, what age group do you want to hang out with? You might enjoy Kittichai for Thai in SOHO - very cool atmosphere.

ok back from trip - turned 30 in response to previious question. Had a lovely time at Asia de Cuba - still trendy, great service and good food + ppl watching. Night at The Plunge - very cool rooftop bar and good crowd. Walked around meatpacking Dist afterward. Saw Spice Market - seemed fun but for next time!
Had lunch at Klongs in East Village. Will save Kittichai for Soho next time - heard rave reviews. Klongs was fantastic. cool atmosphere as well.
Checked out Maritime for Borttega - great atmosphere + crowd - food/service so-so.
Little Italy was fab. Check out Babbo - another lovely italian restaurant!!!!!
All in all great time in NYC. no clubs this time - perhaps next. Was too jet lagged half the time coz it was such a short trip from coast 2 coast.
thx again everyone! oh and picnic at Central Park was the beest lunch!!!!!!!
