The Carlyle Inn- Los Angeles
My boyfriend and I will be spending Monday through Wednesday of next week in the Los Angeles area. We're looking for a well-located hotel that will allow reasonably easy access to shopping Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica, Universal Studios, good restaurants, and LAX.
Does the Carlyle fit? We're open to other hotel suggestions - price range is up to about $125 a night. Thanks for any advice!

The location of the Carlyle is not that good, in that Robertson between Olympic and Pico is decidedly commercial, charmless, and the immediate surroundings are not great. You're centrally located to what you want to see, sure, but why not stay in a nicer neighborhood?
In fairness, I have never stayed there (I live in the LA metro area); travel websites call it a good deal, although user comments on sites like travelocity are not very positive.
In Beverly Hills, the Crescent and the Elan rate higher, and rooms list on travelocity for about $130 a night. ALso check out the Best Western Sunset Plaza on Sunset. Although it's a BW, it's a very nice one. And, it might be a bit cheaper than the other two I listed.

as always, the reply from RGB is dead on. I was looking at the Carlyle from my vantage point in bumper-to-bumper Robertson traffic yesterday. They also don't have a taxi queue among other services. Another option in the same general vicinity is the Loews on Beverwil and Pico. That is just blocks from Rodeo Drive, 5 miles from SM, etc.

This post may be too late, but just so you know...
Rodeo Drive/ Beverly Drive are a disaster area at the present time. All of the trees have been removed, the median planters, curbs and part of the sidewalks have been jackhammered away and the remaining sidewalks have been narrowed with chain-link fencing to just four feet wide. It's all part of a street beautification project to be completed by Thanksgiving (in time for the holiday decs to go up!), but right now it's a street uglification project. It looks truly awful. So awful that a few stores have decided it's a good time to close for renovation.
For this trip, I wouldn't choose a hotel based on its access to Beverly Hills.
