The Canyons

I am leaving for The Canyons later this week. I hear that they had a lot of snow in the last few weeks. Any thoughts as to night life and opinions of the the resort? We are staying at the Grand Summit. It looks nice on the brochure again any thoughts or tips?
Thanks...

I haven't stayed at the Grand Summit but from the outside it looks great. My family loves skiing The Canyons. It is very close to Park City and Deer Valley if you wanted to try a different resort. Also it is less than 45 min. from Salt Lake if you want to drive down to the city.

The Canyons is offering a 4 pack skiing package for $99 - you have to buy it before 12/14 and there are restrictions - $99 is for one person only for 4 days, but it is a great value. You can order it on-line at www.TheCanyons4pack.com. There may be a problem with them mailing them to you quickly enough - but I'd check it out.

Have fun.

For nightlife, just head into Park City. There are lots of restaurants "clubs" (bars in Utah are private clubs where one person in your party has to pay a nominal, one-time-only membership fee to get in and sponsor the rest of you), and shops.

Hi Harold! Yes, the Canyons is having a super promotion right now. The Grand Summit is a very nice hotel with full amenities and step out the door access to the gondola & lifts. Hopefully, the service in their restaurants and bars has improved over last year. It was really bad. Lots of people really like the Canyons, but I personally do not. Yes, the brag about all the acreage they have - BUT, the trail system has not been developed much over the new acreage. To get around the mountain from lift to lift, you have to ski down some heavy traffic, narrow & icy trails. Just not my favorite thing to do. The best part of the resort is the old part that used to be Park West. West. Less crowded, wider runs & better snow. One thing to be aware of - the Canyons is NOT on the free Park City shuttle bus system & is not within walking distance of Historic Main Street where most of the nightlife, shops & galleries are located. The Canyons does provide it's own bus service, but I don 't believe it starts until Christmas week. So, for now you are on your own which means paying for taxis. Yes, we have had a record November. (We are VERY happy!) The skiing is great -you'll have a good time. Be sure to visit the Olympic Park & check out the bobsleigh, luge track and the nordic jumps. It's really an impressive facility.

I am going to the canyons with my three children 8, 10 and 13. We are staying at the grand summit. Is the ski school good and does anyone know of any good restaurants. Do they have sleigh ride dinners?

if you don't like the canyons, where would you ski if you're an intermediate skier?

Tons of locals ski the Canyons and love it. Don't just dismiss it, especially if you are staying there. Park City and Deer Valley are both only minutes away from the Canyons.
