The Borgata - mixed review

When we arrived at the Hotel we were greeted right away and the check in was very easy.I asked for a room upgrade as I read on thier website for 50 dollars per night they will upgrade your room to a suite,The reservationist said sure and there will not be a charge for the upgrade.Great, we were on our way to our beautiful room, a Fiore suite which is really a oversized room with a beautiful large bathroom. The first night was great,The next morning I had a Spa appointment so I left my husband who thought he might sleep in.At 10:30 AM they kept calling the room to see when he was going to check out.The only problem was we were not checking out. When he explained to them that we had booked two nights not one the person on the line said if you do not leave we are going to call security. He was shocked as my husband is always a gentlemen. When I returned from my Spa Appointment(highly rec.the spa) I called the front desk and asked for another room if we could not stay there. They said they were completely booked. As we had plans that evening we could not leave for home so I asked to speak with a manager who said there was nothing he could do ao i asked to speak with his manager. Finally he said ok but you will have to pay the standard rate which was fine with me.I still do not undersatnd how a room suddenly became available. The reason I am posting is I did make one mistake,I did not take my confirmation letter with me,usually do but not this time.I guess all is well that ends well but I am certainly not impressed based on how we were treated.

You got lucky on the upgrade. We used to get upgraded for free all the time (we get comped rooms, so it's all free) but lately they want $100 for the upgrade. I asked why and was told they have a lot of new Black Label card holders because of their promotion inviting premium card holders from the other AC casinos to get a Borgata card.

Friends of mine spend a couple of days per month at Borgata (comped) and say they never know what to expect. One time it will be wonderful, then they'll have a bad experience. Service wise, apparently, it runs the gamut from horrible to great.

Service is indeed uneven. I had a wonderful experience at the Wolfgang Puck - bad table but great food and outstanding service. Sadly, the Bobby Flay was amateurish and rushed in service and I had to send the tenderloin back twice as it was grossly overcooked, even after giving specific instruction. Still hungry, I went to the SeaBlue for some mussels, and was served clams!!! Don't they listen???

My husband and son recently stayed at the Borgata on their first and probably only trip to AC. Husband is very well traveled and said their room there was the most massive, gigantic hotel room he had ever seen. They must have been upgraded.

cindymal:

ALWAYS confirm all of the details when you check in. And, I know this is the computer age, but ALWAYS get something in writing with the details. Glad you were able to convince them to let you stay.

Am not too surprised with the service comments, since Borgata, as I understand it, has strict weight requirements (for at least some) of their potential hires. Perhaps they should be less concerned about how "sexy" their staff looks and a little more concerned about whether or not they're professional and competent. That draconian rule is why I have always avoided Borgata when I go to AC.
