The Beach Cottages -- San Diego
Deciding where to stay in San Diego in June. I've been reading about "June Gloom", but we don't have a choice about when to go. Does anyone know anything about The Beach Cottages in San Diego?? They look cute, and are in a good location (on boardwalk). We need something with at least a kitchenette or full kitchen....located where we can get out and walk to restaurants, beach, shopping, ect... I have reservations at the Coronado Beach Resort, but haven't been able to find out anything about them (located across the street from the Del Coronado). Thanks!

We stayed at the Ocean Beach Cottages in Ocean Beach last August. The pictures are VERY deceiving. The cabin were not very nice at all. If it's the same ones, we were a few blocks from the beach right in the middle of a very "college town" feeling neighborhood. If you've ever been to Santa Cruz, you'll know what I mean. The WORST though was that Ocean Beach is right in San Diego Airports flight path. The endless noise of jets tourtured us all day (and most of the night!!) Hope that helps.

No way to Ocean Beach. Every time I drive through there I smell the marijuana smoke blowing in from the beachside apartments.
Definitely a grungier college type of feel to that area. NOt that it is dirty really, just makes you feel dirty.
Go to Coronado.

I wonder if you are thinking of the cottages on Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. These are fabulous! They are actually built out on the pier off the boardwalk. They all come with a kitchen and their own ouside patio. We treated ourselves a couple of years ago. What a great long weekend we had.Once we parked the car out in front of the cottage on the pier we only used it once. There is something surrealistic listening to the ocean below as you sleep! They do book up quickly so good luck to you in June!
Friends of ours raved about Redwood Hollow cottages further up in La Jolla. You can walk down to the beach an they are all beautifully furnished and the landscaping is wonderful. We tried for a long weekend this summer and no luck!

the location is nice right by pacific beach and mission bay. lots of restaurants around and the boardwalk is great for biking, blading or walking. i'm not too sure if they are very nice but if you want to be on the beach and that is your budget then it may be worth it. i would try to get one of the upper floors so that you can open your curtains without a million people looking in. if you have a car, make sure they provide parking. the pacific terrace is definitly a much nicer place but will be much pricier too.

meant to mention that june gloom can be a drag at the beach but if you head inland even a short distance, it will probably be sunny. if you get in a real need for sun, palm springs is a pleasant day trip - 2 1/4 hours each way and there are different routes you could take there and back.
