Texas to New York Flight/Hotel Tips
Hey everyone,
Today I found out I got tickets to The Tonight Show on September 23rd! Considering that is only 2 and a half weeks away, does anyone have advice as far as finding the cheapest flights/hotels or the best time to book flights? Some people say immediately, others say wait until the middle of the week. I live in Texas and I've never been to NY. I would like to arrive in NY the 19th or 20th and leave on the 24th, a Thursday.
I realize it will be quite expensive since it's so close- just looking for some tips to save money.Thank you!

From which airport in Texas? $325 looks like the nonstop airfare from Houston but you must purchase 14 days in advance so tomorrow-ish.
Club Quarters hotel is right opposite Rockefeller Center and is $300 per night that week, with taxes bringing it to $350 or so.

You are well outside the window for cheap airline tickets. I would use an of the search engines and look at all of NY's airports. You might get be lucky. In theory middle of the week is a better booking time but at this late date I doubt if there will be much difference. You need to find a hotel. With your time line I would stay in Manhattan. You could try hotel.com to see what is available.
Good luck.

Since you did say "cheapest", you could consider the Best Western LaGuardia Airport. There is nothing near the hotel except for a supermarket, and you'd have to take the 7 train back and forth into Manhattan maybe 35 mins each way (but no changes of train). The hotel is newly refurbished & has pickup at LaGuardia airport, serves breakfast and is right at the train station, so close in fact that you'd want to request a room on the quiet side of the hotel to be away from the train. Its probably around $125 a night. Not the greatest neighborhood if you're traveling alone and I probably wouldn't stay there but if you can't afford anything in Manhattan and you're dying to see The Tonight Show......(which by the way could be cancelled if Jimmy Fallon falls down again....so big investment for possibly no payoff).

Sorry - do NOT stay near any of the airports. You will be the best part of an hour from Manhattan and it will be a major PIA to get back to the hotel after dinner or a show - who wants to be trekking on multiple subways/buses at 11 pm?
Definitely stay in Manhattan if you can. The problem is that Sept is heading into high season and a lot of places may already be booked and you are too late for advance purchase.
Often the cheapest hotel in Manhattan is the Jane but the rooms are minute and many have shared baths.
I have checked a couple of budget places that I know but all are showing fully booked. I think you will have to check the various discount sites: hotels.com, etc to see what comes up for your dates. Anything less than $300 is probably a good deal but do check here (since some places are really just not acceptable - dirty, no services, etc).
If Manhattan is too expensive have a look at Long Island City which ha several places with decent reviews and i s only about 10 minutes from Manhattan by subway. Country Inn/Suite usually gets decent reviews. Make sure whatever it is is close to a subway stop.
For flights I would check kayak to see what they list - but don;t think there are any bargains at this point.
