Taxi or car service from JFK

Four of us will be arriving at JFK, staying at a midtown hotel. Will it be less expensive to take taxi into midtown hotel or use a car service? Hotel doesn't have a shuttle. Thanks.

A car service could actually be cheaper but not by much. The last time I used a car service from JFK into the city it was I believe $40; the flat rate for taxis from JFK into the city is $45. What time of day does your flight get in?

I'd probably just take a cab; the only downfall is the length of the taxi line which varies greatly in my experience...

No hotels in Manhattan have shuttles.

Taxi is a fixed $45 plus toll and tip for a total fo about $60. Car service will cost the same. I find taxi to be faster than trying to connect with the service driver.

There are also some minivan taxis. It really depends on how much luggage you have and the size of the 4 passengers. dial7.com is a car service that will ask you to phone them when you have your luggage. Whatever you do, don't accept a ride from anyone who approaches you.
