Taos, NM-July
I will be going to Taos with a 22 year old son and 20 year old daughter the first week in July. We have rented a house for three nights. What activities (besides the museams and the town itself) can we do in the Taos area? Are there places for rafting (never done before)or horseback riding? Are there good trails for hiking? Any special drives (other than between Santa Fe and Taos)? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Not sure how the water will be running by then, but we love rafting in Taos with Los Rios River Runners.

Go to Taos Pueblo, it is amazing and then drive over the Gorge Bridge.
Broken Saddle for riding outside of Santa Fe [south; along Turquiose Trial in Cerrillos],

Tent Rocks just southwest of Santa Fe for amazing rock formations.
Type Taos Santa Fee Albuquerque into the search box above to see old threads on similar Q's.
Also, click the DESTINATIONS link above and see what Fodor's says on these cities, great suggestions.
Hope this helps!

Debi has pretty much hit the main points. Would add my vote for Taos Publeo and the Gorge Bridge (drive slow - the drop off of the Gorge is incredible). Also see the San Francisco de Asis church just south of Taos - immortalized by Georgia O'Keefe and Ansel Adams.

Yes, you drive to a small parking area and then hike from there. It gets really hot there, so go early; where good hiking shoes or sneakers [I wouldn't do it in TEVAs but DH did it];and bring lots of water to drink. There are 2 paths; one easier than other. More difficult one goes thru some narrow rock slices.
Enjoy!
