tampa/clearwater area in late June
I am considering the Tampa/Clearwater area in late June with 2 teenage children. I've been given info on the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Clearwater, as well as the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort. Has anyone been to either?

I regret that I have experience only with little, narrow beaches toward the south. I'm informed by a native of the area, reliably, I believe, that the Clearwater area has wide and wonderful beaches, for even the remotely athletic. I believe you'll be happy at either place. Good luck.

Barb, Last May my husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool area is nice and is popular with kids. It's right across the street from Leverock's, a popular seafood restaurant.
Its beach is located on the channel that leads from the bay to the gulf. I didn't think the water looked as clear as it did on the beaches directly on the gulf. Otherwise the beach is fine.
Also, there is a bridge directly behind the building which crosses the channel and the traffic noise can be heard at night. This is because the hallways are open to the outside as opposed to being enclosed. I'm a very light sleeper so this bothered me a lot. On the other hand, it was convenient to be right there at the bridge for exploring points south, since traffic at the heart of Clearwater Beach can be slow and congested at times.
Haven't been to the Hilton, so I can't be of help there!
Just a suggestion: book early. We stayed at the Holiday Inn because my first three choices were booked, about 6 weeks ahead of time. It's a popular place!
Hope this helps!

L--LOL...I saw that!
Barb, As Rene said, Holiday Inn Sunspree is not on the Gulf, but a channel leading to it, and the huge span leading from Clearwater Beach to Sand Key is just off to the left. Neither the water nor the views are nearly as nice as what you'd get at the Hilton. Go for the Hilton...don't look back!
Or..you might also think about the Radisson or Sheraton on Sand Key. Though the Sand Key beach is very nice, it's not that gorgeous wide, nearly pure white sand, like that found just north of Pier 60, a beach without equal where gleaming athletic bodies romp! ;> gt;
