Tampa Hotel Suggestions
Going to Tampa in February...am limited to a hotel not too far from the airport (based on staying near friends, so the Busch Garden area or Clearwater, I've been told, is out - need to be close)....Based on my initial research - looks like the $200/night range would be realistic. Still doesn't leave many options - the front runner seems to be the Embassy Suites - any feedback on that or any other hotel in that price range? Want a pool, a bar - and a little atmosphere but from what I've seen not sure how far $200 goes in that area of Tampa for a room so your feedback would be much appreciated....Thanks!!

The Doubletree at Rocky Point is near the airport and has a nice water view. There is a Hyatt at Rocky Point also which you might check out. The Renaissance at International Plaza may be out of the price range. However, I would check it out. International Plaza is a new shopping mall and very close to the airport.

If Priceline is an option for you, the Grand Hyatt and the Renaissance are the only 4 stars in the Airpot zone. Haven't stayed at the Renaissance, but have stayed at the Grand Hyatt a number of times for 70 - 85/night....the Hotel is nice, with ppols, and a nature preservee that you can walk through....I doubt that you'd have too hard of a time getting it if your stay includes a weekend. It seems to be more of a business hotel, even though it doesn't feel like it when you get there....right on the bay with the nature preserve and pools.

The Embassy Suites used to be nice and very roomy but I haven't been there for years. All the other suggestions are good. If you can get the hyatt for $80, snatch it! Or the Renaissance (you'd be close to the action there next to the mall). So Priceline sounds like a really great option.

I haven't been on Fodors in awhile and when I'm on it - it never ceases to amaze me how helpful and knowledgable people are - more so than any other travel website...thanks so much to the three of you. Rubytwo I did check out that Doubletree in Rocky Point - looked perfect - so perfect in fact that it was sold out but Rocky Point seems like a nice area. I did see a Chase Suites that looked reasonable and seemed to get good feedback - but almost seemed too reasonable (I'm from NJ and therefore a natural cynic - ha ha). And I think you're both right about Priceline - I've never tried it before but everyone seems to have some great experiences and if I can get a Hyatt or something along those lines for well under $200 - what a great deal. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out....
