Hi:
We were planning a trip to Tamarack for August 21. Before booking, I checked TripAdvisor and there were 2 HORRIBLE reviews (recent ones) saying the resort is empty, under construction and not put togather yet. Of course, now we are hesitant.
Does anybody know whether this is a good place to go? We have 3 kids - the flights cost a ton and this is going to be our vacation for the year.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
PS We were attracted to Tamarack becuase it has all of the mountain activities and lake activities at one site (supposedly).
Tamarack Resort in Donnelly - any info about?

We know a family who spent the 4th of July weekend at Tamarack in a 2 bedroom cottage. They liked the cottage very much but said the resort is still under construction and was virtually empty although the Lyle Lovett concert there one night was well attended. The ski mountain has been open for a season (maybe 2?) and the skiing is reported to be very good there but as I understand it, the resort itself is still under construction. The marina hasn't been built and I don't know what else the resort currently offers. I know Pres Bush was there for a couple of nights last summer and mountain biked but beyond that, I'm not sure what there is to do.
If you already have tickets, another option would be McCall, about 20-30 minutes north of Donnelly. It's on a pretty little lake. Whitetail Resort on the lake is very nice and offers golf, tennis, pool, access to boat rentals, short walk into the small town of McCall with cute shops, restaurants and indoor ice skating. Spring Mountain Ranch is not on the lake but offers nice home rentals and amenities include pool, tennis, golf.
Another option would be Sun Valley. It's beautiful there during the summer whith lots of outdoor activities as well as shops & restuarants.
I believe all 3 ski mountains open their lifts for mountain biking. And in all 3 areas, there's hiking and you could probably find fishing and rafting excursions too.
Hope this helps!
We have friends who have bought property at Tamarack. The resort is not yet finished. It is indeed somewhat of a ghost town still. Many of the people "vacationing" there are looking to buy property. Unless you are interested in Tamarack real estate, I suggest going to a diffeent destination-McCall or Sun Valley. I'd go to Tamarack in 2 or 3 more years.
