Sunriver Resort - Oregon -- been there?
My family has planned a reunion at Sunriver in July. Anyone familiar with this resort? It sounds nice but I've spent a bundle to get there so will have to go easy once I'm there.. I like to hike but am a beginner.

I live in Oregon and have been to Sunriver. A group of us rented one of the hundreds of houses there 2 Christmases ago. It's near Bend so there are lots of places to hike in the area. Also a nice museum with wildlife outside Bend. Sunriver is *big* with hundreds if not thousands of homes, condos and hotel rooms for rent. There is a path around the whole place we walked on (more like a sidewalk). I believe there are several swimming pools.
I think there may be rafting in the summer. Smith Rock State Park is in Redmond which is like 40 miles or so away and that's a big rock climbing place. Mt. Bachelor is nearby and also lots of mountain lakes. IMO the tourist trap town of Sisters is a place to *skip*.

My family and I go to Sunriver at least 4 times a year. If you can bring your bike then do. The swimming is good at the south pool. There is a slide and a wading pool for the little kids. There are lots of parks around. The Lava caves are fun. You rent lantern and walk a mile under ground. There are factory outlet stores in Bend. Lots of fishing, canoeing, and horseback riding. Bring an assortment of clothes it gets hot in the day and cold at night. Have a great time.

My husband and I were there earlier this week. We stayed in a condo my uncle is renting. We drove up to Mt. Bachelor and to Todd Lake (about a mile farther). There was still snow and we couldn't hike around the lake, but it was beautiful. A lot of people were skiing at Bachelor. Sunriver is on the desert side of the mountains and it does get up to 90 or so, but the evenings were cool. We didn't have time for anything else - we had driven from the Coast and headed up to the Columbia Gorge the next day.

hello -- if you haven't left for sunriver already, consider doing the 6 mile float trip that begins at the marina -- it is DELIGHTFUL and takes about 2 hours -- not MUCH skill is needed, in case you've never paddled before -- the first time we did that float, we saw a mink walking along the riverbank with a snake in it's mouth -- it was COOL!!.....
also, we were just in that neighborhood the week before the 4th and we heard that the wildflowers at "fort rock" are AMAZING this year -- fort rock is about an hour or so southeast and a fabulous place to see raptors feeding mornings and evenings....
have a GRAND time -- that country is truly special!! gloria

My husband finally talked me into vacationing @ Sunriver last year. We had a fabulous time, plan to go back next year. Our 10 year old spent most of his time @ the kid's camp (day & evening programs). They have more activities than our son had ever had at camp. We bicycled everywhere, even to get groceries in the village. You don't need a car unless you are leaving the resort area. 3 nice golf courses. Yes, Crosswater is worth the money. Swimming, canoeing rafting. We thought it was really a great place.
