Sunriver, Oregon July 4th, 2011 - what to do?

Hello,
We are headed to Sunriver for the week of July 4th. We are Portland areas residents and have been to Sunriver many times, however we are looking for information on things happening that particular week. Parades, concerts, special kids things, etc? Anyone ever do a kids tennis camp? Rafting? Anything special happening in Bend?

Thanks!

We have been there over the 4th, but didn't do anything special for it. The tennis camps are very good. You might look into private or semi private lessons as well. We have done all of this with the pro and really enjoyed it. Rafting is a must do on every trip there. We like Sun Country Tours. Their Big Eddy trip is basic, but fun, and they pick up there in the village which is nice. We do the afternoon trip so that it is warmer on the water. The mornings in early July can still be a bit chilly.

Check out the Sunriver website and see what things are going on in the village.

The best fireworks in Deschutes County are shot from the top of Pilot Butte in Bend. There are quite a few good places around town to watch from. I usually watch from the parking lot of the Presby Church. One of the local radio stations has music synchronized to the fireworks.
Kayaking, golf, bicycling and hiking are all very poplar in Sunriver. The Lava River Cave is supposed to be open on July 1.
The Lava Lands Visitor Center is open Thursday-Monday 9-5. Currently only access from southbound US97 until construction is complete. The High Desert Museum is a great place to visit with kids.

There is a 5K Walk/Run starting @ 8AM at Riverbend Park in Bend on July 4. In support of the Children's Heart Fund of St. Charles Foundation. Sign up at SparkYourHeartBend.com
Even if you don't run or walk you can get a T-shirt for $15.
There may also be something going on in Sisters as well.
