summer job in Yellowstone

Any advice for someone (adult) who wants to live/work at Yellowstone next summer?

You might try this website.

http://www.yellowstonejobs.com/details.htm

If you get a job there, I'd like to know how it went.

When in Yellowstone a couple of summers ago, I talked to one of the girls at the Roosevelt Lodge stables. She was having a good time. SHe was a college student and was skipping the next semester to work there in the fall also. She lived in the housing provided at the lodge and said it was very basic (was a bear outside the housing about 30 minutes before we had the conversation!).

I have an elderly friend (in her 70's) who worked several summers at the grand canyon and had a great time

I have friends in their late 50's or maybe early 60's who worked at Yellowstone two years ago. The couple got jobs at Lake Lodge. They lasted the summer, but hated it. I can't say what the deal was, just reporting what they said. Their response was they felt out of place as most were college kids, they had no friends or people to talk with, and just felt like there was no social life at all. They felt is was a lot more work and longer hours than they expected, with no major chance for relaxation or a break.

My father-in-law worked in Yellowstone the last three summers for the leased company that runs the gas/service stations. He LOVED it, but my mother-in-law didn't. He worked with mostly college kids at the Fishing Bridge, Old Faithful and Mammoth stations. The money was good.

My mother-in-law didn't work, and wasn't really comfortable driving in the park. So, she stayed in their RV a lot! The key to enjoying your work/stay is to get involved and have an open frame of mind to working with college kids. Most people live in the "dorm" style housing. A few people are "allowed" to park an RV in the employee RV parks for a fee. The medical personnel working at the hospital have good perks --- all their meals are provided in the hospital cafeteria. I know he found his job on the internet, I'm just not sure where.

Good Luck,
Marla
