suggestions/ideas for travelling through the United states?
Our family wants to do a road trip (we did last year and went great)
2 adults, 2 boys ages 4 and 7
We're in Canada and would like to travel through the US we have 2 weeks in August. We're located in Southern Ontario, so we're open to any ideas, this is what we look in our experiences in a span of 2 weeks:
1) some amusement park/water park
2) camping or staying in cabins
3) maybe a day in a city i nour way
4) some hiking
5) I'd like to try a dude ranch
My budget is top $1,500 including lodging/ food and entertainment and i think we could only go as far as 12-15 hours far from home.
Any suggestions?
I'll tell you where we went last year and we enjoyed it,
We went to New Hampshire to Santa's village, Six gun city, Finger lakes, and Lake placid
thanks for the sugggestions

Southern Ontario covers a lot of territory. Are you closer to Niagara Falls or Sarnia?
Heading south and west from Niagara Falls through Cleveland turn north in Toledo into Michigan.
I'm thinking you would enjoy the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Hiawatha National Forest has 2 cabins for rent. http://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/hiaw...3267&actid=101
I'm thinking dude ranches would be pretty far west of Chicago.

Are you saying you have $1500 for two weeks for lodging
and food and entertainment and gas. That is only $100 a day for a family of four. I'm very budget minded but I do not see how this is possible.

The two cabins in the UP of MI are less than $80/night. You can only rent one for up to 7 nights. They each have vault outhouses and hand pumped water. You have to bring your own cook stove, food and utensils.
Bring your kayak or canoe for some paddling on a lake or river.

I'd like to try a dude ranch
This might not be possible on your budget and within a 15-hour drive of your home: http://www.evranch.com/cms.asp?wpID=465

I was looking at last night, the possibility of going to silver lake dunes in Michigan, then to Chicago, and then the Indianopolis state fair in August,
any cheap lodging along those ways or suggestions for that route?
thanks

We're in the midst of planning a trip to Chicago, Milwaukee, and parts of Wisconsin. From what I've been reading as we plan, I think you'd find most of what you want to do in that area (except the dude ranch).
