Suggestions needed--thinking about 1 night in Bodega Bay, but open to input

I am posting this in both the Lounge and on the USA board to reach the widest possible audience...

We are landing at SFO on Sunday June 19th, spending one night in Berkeley to catch up with an old friend and we have Tue and Wed nights booked at our favorite spot in Healdsburg, before heading back down to LA on Thur of that week for 3 nights w/DS and DDIL.

We were thinking of heading up to Sonoma via the coast and staying in Bodega Bay on our open Monday night. We have always been curious about it b/c of Hitchcock and TV's Murder She Wrote. We have no expectations of it being a wondrous place, we are just curious. (BTW, we recently watched the newest Tom Selleck episode of Robert Parker's Jesse Stone character and I could swear that they also used Bodega Bay as Paradise, MA..)

However, I would welcome any and all suggestions for either a place in BB or an alternate plan. I realize that we could go straight up from Berkeley and head toward Napa and end up in Sonoma via that route, but is there a place someone recommends as a one night kind of stop? By that I mean, we do not intend to do extensive touring at the place where we stay on Monday night, more of a place holder kind of stop between seeing our friend and going to Healdsburg.

I know we could have stayed in Healdsburg for that night too, but we decided against it. Two nights there is what we have enjoyed in the past. The time we stayed for 3, it felt like one too many.

Thanks! I know that I should have asked sooner.

Jessica Fletcher's house in Murder She Wrote was in Mendocino, not Bodega Bay. However, Bodega Bay is pretty and the drive there on Highway 1 is beautiful.

Sorry, don't know anything about places to stay in the area.

Thanks, Shanti. I guess we won't look for it! Do you know if that is also true of the coastline shots, i,.e Mendocino and not BB?

Oops, I wasn't clear in my earlier post. The exterior shots of "Murder She Wrote", including the coastline, were filmed in Mendocino. "The Birds," however, was filmed in Bodega Bay and in Bodega.

I've been to Bodega Bay twice and enjoyed seeing the few structures that are still there from the filming of "The Birds" (the schoolhouse and a part of the pier that you might recall erupted in flames from the gas pumps). It's a beautiful area, even if the movie weren't filmed there. We stayed a couple of nights at the Bodega Bay Lodge (I believe that's the name) which was very nice, with access to very pretty walks. Enjoy!

Both the Bodega Bay Lodge and the Inn at the Tides are excellent. Would recommend that restaurant attached to Inn at the Tides. They have some great rooms some with patios and ocean/bay views. Of course if the June Gloom is present the patio might not be all that great. Some have fireplaces as well and that would be nice in June Gloom conditions.
