Suggestions for summer vacation near lake with dog

We are trying to identify some potential locations for a summer vacation somewhere in the midwest near a lake that are large (75b) dog friendly. I recall seeing posts here about beaches on the west coast of Michigan that are and aren't dog friendly but wasn't able to find them. Does anyone have any personal recommendations for dog friendly accommodations/VRBOs?

Not a personal rec but you could do some additional research using www.bringfido.com as a start I would think.

Camping?
Cottage?
Hotel/motel?
RV?

Interests: museums? wine? food? swimming? boating? fishing? birdwatching? mushroom collecting? fruit picking?

You leave a lot unspecified.

Actually, IMHO, you have two issues:

1) Finding dog-friendly accommodations; and
2) Even if they are dog-friendly, finding one that will allow a pet of that large size. Many don't or might only allow it if the pet is confined, etc.

I think that the second will be the most difficult one for you.

Before you start looking for beach areas, I'd locate accommodations which would meet these criteria. Then continue your research from there to see if there are any beaches which allow dogs in that immediate area.

You might still be somewhat too early to research any changes of the municipality or other entity (i.e., state or national parks) regarding pets.

Also, the municipality may require that your pet have specific shots given with documentation of a vet.

Iowamom,

Muskegon, MI has an amazing dog beach at Norman Kruse park -- http://www.muskegon-mi.gov/departments/parks/kruse/.

We try to go every year since the pups love it, although, we recently moved to Iowa (where in the state are you?) and it will be a longer drive.

We have stayed at numerous VRBO properties that allow dogs - just make sure you use that filter so you are not contacting places that won't allow pets.
