Suggestions for romantic 3 day weekend??

I want to plan a surprise 3 day weekend for my husband and me, something romantic and relaxing. I guess you could say, a mini second honeymoon. I don't want it to be so secluded that if we decided to go out one evening we couldn't find a nice restaurant and maybe a bar to dance or have drinks. I am open to all suggestions since this is the beginning stages of preparation. I am looking at a time frame of maybe August to September. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Our family went to Quebec City last summer as part of our vacation. My husband and I would like to travel there alone sometime. The "Old City" is walled. It is like stepping back hundreds of years in time to France. The oldest section of the city "Place Royale" looks like something out of Belle's town in "Beauty and the Beast". The original buildings and churches are standing. There is street entertainment throughout the "Old City". Buggy rides are available. The Chateau Frontenac is right on the St. Lawrence Seaway and has a history all it's own. You can have meals there even if you are not staying at the hotel. The boardwalk along the St. Lawrence is wonderful. There are performers , singers, etc. during the day and evening. The Citadel gives tours of the walled fortress. Quebec City is steeped in French Canadian tradition. There are a couple of streets that are filled with street vendors ranging from paintings to caricatures to carvings. You can walk anywhere in the "Old City" and feel safe. The people there were more than accomodating. Outside the walls is a thriving, bustling modern city with nightlife, etc. I highly recommend Quebec City and particularly the walled section.

You don't say where you live, but if CA is a possibility there are two books---"Romantic Weekends for Two, Northern California and Southern California." Be prepared to pay for romance, however. In the East I think a weekend at the Inn at Little Washington would be wonderful or Savannah, GA, or Charleston,SC. Have fun!

Here are some ideas, maybe one of them will be convenient to your location:

Delaware's Brandywine Valley -- it's between Philadelphia and Wilmington; gorgeous and there's lots to do in the area; stay in Chadds Ford at the Chadds Ford Inn or in Wilmington at the DuPont.

Charleston, South Carolina -- stay at the Charleston Place Hotel

Santa Monica/Los Angeles -- stay at Shutters on the Beach

Montreal, Quebec -- stay at the Kempinski

Sedona, Arizona -- stay at the Enchantment Resort

Santa Fe, New Mexico -- stay at the Inn of the Anasazi

Portland, Oregon -- stay at the Riverplace on the banks of the Willamette

Mendocino, California -- stay at the Stanford Inn

If you don't mind the travel...my husband and I had a wonderful time at a quaint little log cabin in the lakes region of central Minnesota. It's called the Bestview Cabin at Breezy Point. The cabin is located inside the 3000 acre Breezy Point Resort, so there is plenty of activity. Golf, fish, water sports, Dockside Lounge & Restaurant (an Elvis impersonator performs there weekends in July & August, it's a riot). The cabin actually sleeps 5, but was perfect for a couple...kitchen facilities for cooking a romantic meal, TV & VCP for watching a romantic movie.

I mentioned this in another posting but cannot remember which one. You might want to consider St. Augustine Fl. It is within driving distance to you and is a very nice place for a long weekend. I got engaged there at a nice B&B called the Old Powder House Inn. There are many Inns in St. Augustine to choose from, I'm sure there is a web site if you look. There are many things to do and see, and some good restaurants. WE had a wonderful dinner at La Parisienne withing walking distance of our Inn. Innkeepers were really nice and gave suggestions on things to do. E-mail me if you have any other ?'s.
