Suggestion for Las Vegas to Yosemite in July

Hi

I am thinking of moving from LV to Yosemite, Curry Village, in July.

At this moment, I am planning to stop over at Lone Pine as it appears to be the most relax drive for a stop over. I will have covered Death Valley the day before with a group day tour, so passing pass DV may not be necessary.

So I would like to seek any suggestion, either than Lone Pine that is worth a stopover for a night but not overly driving, i.e. LV to suggested location = about 4 - 5 hours drive (inclusive of some driving breaks) and suggested location to Yosemite, Curry Village, another 4 - 5 hours, will be fine.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Jensen

Lone pine is a great little place with an old hôtel, an interesting film museum and nice scenery around the rocks of Alabama hills. I cant think of a better place to stay, unless you are a bread afficionado (then you stay in Bishop for Erick Schat)

The hotel rouelan mentioned in Lone Pine is the Dow Hotel.

I like Lone Pine, but I would go farther the first day. The town of Bishop offers more hotels and restaurants and puts you an hour closer to your final destination. If you're interested in American history, you might want to make a stop at the Manzanar War Relocation Camp a few miles north of Lone Pine. It's a disturbing part of our history that not everyone knows about.

On the second day, you might want to make a brief stop at Mono Lake before heading to Yosemite for unique scenery and wildlife and to learn about the native tribes who lived in this area. (The visitor's center is just north of the town of Lee Vining.) Once you enter Yosemite, the speed limit is 30 mph/48 kpm, and there are several places you may want to stop for the views.

Have you looked at a map? There really aren't many options. Lone Pine, which has now been mentioned to you on both of your threads, is really the best option.

I disagree that Lone Pine is the "best" option. I'd want lots of time for the second, more interesting half of the drive to Curry Village, so I'd want to stop farther than halfway on the first day. I'd also want more choices of lodging and dining than Lone Pine offers.

Either Lone Pine or Bishop would work just fine. Just depends on if you want to drive farther day 1 or day 2.

Hi there

Thanks for the suggestion. Let me do a bit more read up.

Manzanar War Relocation Camp seems to be interesting too!

Guess I prefer to drive slightly further, as the speed limit into YNP is slower.

Thanks all again!!
