Serendipity took me to a wonderful find in Charlton, MA minutes from Sturbridge/Sturbridge Village this weekend. Charlton Orchard/Farm/Winery, a non-biogenic local farm run by three generations of family practicing sustainable agriculture. The apple pie (we literally licked our plates clean when we got home) and cider donuts are worth the trip alone.
There is also a winery with free wine tasting of their award winning fruit wines. Meat from grass fed animals is available also as are apples, berries and vegetables in season. Make a point to talk with Nate,Jr. a successful accountant who returned to his roots as a farmer.
