Stower VT hotel and restaurant question

Hubby and I are booked to stay at the Trapp Family Lodge for 2 nights. How is this hotel? Also, a few years ago we had dinner at Mes Amis. Is this restaurant still good? Or does anyone have any other suggestions - we like upscale bistro type places.

We were in Stowe for husband's 40th this past Feb. Mes Amis is stuffy but fine. Would highly recommend the drive to Waterbury (20+ minutes)for the Mist Grill. Upscale, Fantastic, amazing food. As for the Lodge, it's okay. It's sort of like a conventioneer's lodge. While it has fabulous cross-country skiing out the door or hiking trails in warmer months, it's not exactly intimate. We've had excellent luck at Edsen Hill Manor.

If you go to Fodor's restaurants link and look up Stowe you might get some good ideas. I've heard that the local yet newly renovated Stowe Mountain Inn is supposed to be very good and nice.

Thanks for the info. Do you think we'll need reservations for the Mist Grill on a Saturday night?

Yeah, I would. Since they have an exceptional menu (check their website, I think it's www.mistgrill.com) and fantastic wine list that includes Belgian beer they also are a little popular. It's also a former mill, so the decor is rahab'd, modern, not really stuffy. Attire was somewhat casual....and food was really amazing, service beyond reproach.

other good spots would be Micheals on the Hill (about 10 min outside of Stowe on Rte 100 toward Waterbury) - Piano Bar on Fri. and Sat. - Fine Dining.
For upscale Bistro - try Blue Moon, near the village.
We just ate at Mes Amis last weekend. It is one the places we like to go at Stowe - The food was great. I would not think you would need reservations, unless it is Antique car weekend (the 14th I think)

I second the recommendation for Michael's on the Hill. We were there the early part of July and had a wonderful dinner. All four of us tried the tasting menu. I believe one is gold and the other is silver. We also ordered the wine pairing. It was a great meal.

I took a look at Michael's on the Hill website and it looks great. Is it really as cozy as it looks? We booked a table for next Saturday night. Thanks for all the suggestions.
