I'll be traveling with a group of children and am looking for a nice place to stop & eat our lunches. Perhaps a state park near the highway, a rest area with a great view, or an awesome playground??? Thanks!
stop between western mass. and philadelphia

From Lee MA to Philadelphia is about 4 1/2 to 5 hrs.
If you're driving by car then you have a choice of the Taconic or NYS Thruway, if a commercial vehicle then you'll be restricted to the NYS Thruway.
If you're taking the Taconic, the best route would be TSP south to I-84W, across the Hudson at Beacon-Newburgh, then I87 south from there. If you take that route here are a few ideas less than 1/2 way there.
1. Lake Taghkanic state park, right off the Taconic parkway about 20min south of I-90. You'd need to pay an entrance fee (maybe $5 or $8). Good playground. Beach by the lake. Room to run around. Might not be far enough from your starting point for lunch, depending on when you depart. http://www.nysparks.com/parks/38/details.aspx
2. Better idea. James Baird State Park, again right off the Taconic pkwy. About 1hr south of I-90. Very nice playground & picnic tables. Rest rooms. No entry fee. http://www.nysparks.com/parks/101/details.aspx
3. About 20min further along, Town of Fishkill, NY. Sarah Taylor Park, Rt 9, about 1/2 mi off I-84 at Exit 13. Easy off/easy on. It's your basic town park. No view.

Thanks for these suggestions! We'll be traveling from the Pioneer Valley down I-91 in a motor coach. I've learned that buses are not allowed on parkways, so our plan now is to stop at a state park in Connecticut outside of Danbury. It took quite a few phone calls to get information/permission to bring a bus in, but I think we're all set. Now we're just hoping for better weather!
