Staying in/near Gatlinburg with young kiddos - cabin?

So I think I've been talked into Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for our upcoming TN vacation the end of the month.
Any chance of getting a decent cabin that would be appropriate for a family with 2 young children (2 & 5) for around $100 a night give or take? Nice views would be good, but we'd actually prefer it not be 'up' in the mountains, or at least not where we have to drive scary narrow roads....Any suggestions for specific places to look are welcome!

Hi momof2gr8kids. How many days are you planning to visit? Discounts are offered depending on length of stay.

Also, the last day of school in the area is Friday, May 25th, and you'll find better deals and more availability if you can plan your trip before that date.

We're planning our trip to arrive on the 20th, leave on the 24th. We'll actually leave FL on the 19th, stay overnight 1/2 way, the same on the way back.

At first I was thinking a hotel for the convenience, but then I started looking at cabins online and it looks like many have specials up til Memorial Day...there are so many, though, I don't know how to choose.
Thanks!

Townsend is a nice place to stay. It's a large valley, right at one of the entrances to the national park. Not so touristy as Gatlinburg, more laid back and family friendly. You can go into Gatlinburg /Pigeon Forge easily for day trips. We use BearlyRustic cabin rentals, their cabins are reasonably priced and they have a wide range of accomodations. You are about even distance from Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, around 20/30 minutes drive. You are also closer to Cades Cove than if you stayed in Gatlinburg.

mom, I just booked here for Labor Day weekend. oakhavenresort.com We have stayed here many times and love it. You might want to go to tripadvisor.com and read the reviews of this and others.

Since you are coming in on Sunday and staying during the week, you should be able to talk them down to the lowest rate or at least 25% off the highest rate posted.

Good luck........there are so many cabins in the area and since school is still in session while you are there, you should be able to get a great place.

Have fun and let us know what you decide.

momof2gr6girls, I rented from Cabin Fever Vacations several years ago and all went well. That is a great deal they're offering!

Also, for anyone interested, Dolly Parton will be performing a benefit concert in Sevierville on May 20th http://hfeimages.aristotle.net/DW/En...ert05/0503.htm

So you're going to G'burg! Great! Looks like you are well on your way toward a place to stay, but I have a couple of stops to suggest to you. One is to eat breakfast or a late lunch at Pancake Pantry, it's a tradition! And then take your wee ones next door to the Olde Smoky Candy Kitchen where you can watch through a window while they make fudge and taffy. I loved that as a child! You can also custom select taffy flavors for a souvenir box to take on the road home. It's not that pricey, but fun. These places are both in the heart of Gatlingburg in a shopping area called The Village. A parking tip: park behind it at the elementary school. That used to be an insiders secret but I noticed on our recent trip they are charging now. At least the money goes to a good cause!

Hi momof2gr8kids. The cabin I linked in my yesterday's post was reserved today on your May 20th date, indicating that you might want to hurry since your trip is very soon. Good luck!

Anyone know of more rustic cabins in the same area? Basically looking for a cabin , instead of putting up a tent.

Any campgrounds?
Thanks

Melissa, check over in Townsend. Rustic cabins and campgrounds right on the river. Also in Pigeon Forge there are some little cabins and campgrounds all over the place. Just google. Don't know the names.
