This Saturday, May 12th is Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, sponsored my the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Please join me in helping families in our own communities put food on their tables.
It is as easy as getting your mail!
You can help by placing your food donation at your mailbox on May 12th before your letter carrier arrives. It will then be taken to your Post Office and then delivered to local food banks or pantires.
They are collecting food items like canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice. They will take non-perishable items but they must NOT be in glass containers or have expired dates on containers.
If you do not have accessible mailbox [like in an apartment building or have just a PO box] you can drop off food at your Post office.

No one in the US should go to sleep at night hungry - especially children.
Thanks!

Excellent plug Deb -
and our local food pantry would add PLEASE pay particular attention to expiration dates - last year over 15 CARTONS of donated food was tossed b/c of expiration dates that were years past - nothing gets the volunteers who put in long hours unpacking and stacking and storing the donations to have to spend their time sorting and making a trip to the dump -
and don't forget the bathroom and personal supplies as well as food - toothbrushes, soap, and even if you have some unopened 'hotel' treats like lotions, shampoos, - a special treat especially for kdis or teenagers who often are not able to have those things either -
This is a good cause, but between all of us on this board, there are supporters of many good causes. If we all started posting them to these boards, it would not be good.
Keith
Keith - normally I would only post this in lounge, which I did.
However, I thought this merited posting here on US to get the attention of more people.
It is a scary fact that so many people in the U.S. go to be hungry each night. These often are people who work but just don't earn enough for rent, medicine, clothes. It hits people, maybe right in your own neighborhood who have lost their jobs etc and now can't put food on their table.
It hits the elderly and the young the hardest.
In this great country of ours, letting anyone go to bed hungry is just not acceptable.
<<off my soapbox now and I hope this doesn't turn into a political thread>>
IF you can spare a can of soup or a box of pasta, please do. That's all I ask.
Thanks for the reminder, Debi!
Yes, thank you Deb. I will start getting some things together.
Everyone things THEIR cause deserves more attention.
Keith
PLEASE! Today's the day -- please try and leave something at your mailbox before the carrier arrives - even 1 container/box will help those in your own community so they don't have to be hungry.
Non-perishables, non-expired, non-glass items -- it's so easy to do this so please take 5 minutes and walk to the mailbox NOW.
Or take to local post office if you don't have a mailbox.
THANKS!
Thanks for the reminder.
Our carrier even distributed a special bag to put items in with a note explaining what the drive is all about. I'm going to fill it right now. I hope everyone can donate at least something - this is a good cause!
Thanks for the reminder. I just ran downstairs to put out some canned goods, and found the blue bag in my mailbox for the collection.
