St. Patrick's Day Parade

Hello,

My husband and I will be heading to DC and Philly the week of St. Patrick's Day. My question is which parade is better to check out? And why? They are both on March 12th, and we can only choose one.

Thanks!

Savannah has a great parade on the day. I have never been to the parade in DC or Philly so no help at all.

The only real parade is in NYC on the 17th (why the 12th???). It's way bigger than any of the others and the line of march is up Fifth Ave - right in front of St Pat's.

Can't comment on the others.

Bigger isn't always better and I really don't understand NYC's described as the only real parade.

I've never watched all of Philly's but caught some of it last year when I was walking to the Barnes. I just remember a lot of church and neighborhood groups, bagpipes, and other music. I don't think I'd consider it a destination parade.

I've been to the Philly parade twice, and it's not bad. A lot of kids dancing groups, a lot of Irish-related civic groups, some nice bagpipe bands, and some okay floats.

This video captures well what you would see in Philly:

For comparison, here's the Washington march:

Because the NYC parade started in 1762, has more than 300K marchers and more than 2 million viewers on the street.

C'mon, You said it was the only "real" parade and for all the small town parades you diminish with the defense that size matters. . . phooey
