Make sure you go into the cathedral, check out St Patrick. the floor tiles are beautiful.

My favorite meal in St. Augustine was at the Floridian on 39 Cordova. I liked the look and ambiance of the restaurant as much as anything, homey with a few tables on the porch. They had some options for the health-conscious traveller; it was not upscale.

If you have time during the day, I highly recommend a visit to the Castillo San Marcos! An amazing slice of American history!

I have never eaten there in all my visits to St Augustine. I will have to get pass the Greek and French place.

You might want to check out the Casa Monica Hotel just from an architectural standpoint. They have a restaurant as well but it has been years since I've eaten there. I thought it was good and the atmosphere was outstanding. I remember using a restaurant.com voucher.

We had Sunday brunch there in November and it was very good. It is a beautiful hotel. Casa Monica is not cheap though.

Here are my restaurant recommendations, based solely on my personal preferences... and 23+ years of enjoying their cuisine:

For Lunch

Café Alcazar (25 Granada St, Saint Augustine, FL 32084-4387) is a true hidden gem…and is definitely off the main tourist path. It is a small restaurant located in what was once the deep end of the world's largest indoor swimming pool, now the Lightener Museum building. The food is quite good (I love their curried chicken salad.) and the atmosphere is absolutely unique and very conducive to conversation. They don't take reservations and only serve lunch. You'll notice that I did not mention the Columbia restaurant. IMO, their food is good, but not as good as any of the other restaurants I have mentioned.

Also, it is somewhat of a tourist trap and one of about 6-8 other Columbia's around the state. This may qualify them as a chain restaurant. I know a lot of people eat there, but the other restaurants I have given you are all better.

Orlando Vic, Café Alcazar is very cool, just never open when I am there or friends want to eat at other places. I am not crazy about Harry's except for sitting under those fairy lights in the garden. Great shrimp and grits though. Columbia is just a cool building and I do like the salad and Cuban bread. I had the worst bloody mary there but they noticed I took two sips and didn't charge me.
I have eaten at Saltwater cowboys but was trying to keep them in town except for Caps on the water which is beach side. We tend to have cocktails so want to walk. Love St George's Inn for that reason.
