The lincoln Library has the biggest collection of Lincoln memorabilia. It is free,
Lincolns tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetary. It is the second most visited cemetary in the US,
See Lincolns home too - it is also free, They do a nice tour.
WE enjooyed New Salem too - a short drive from Springfield where Lincoln studied law - "Timber houses, shops, and stores now comprise the reconstructed historic village where history comes to life as costumed interpreters take on the characters of the people who lived and worked here more than 150 years ago. "
For lunch we are ar CAfe Brio - A latin/Caribbean/Mexican - it is downtown - 524 E. Monroe Street
It was fun and unique and very good!!

Depending on your interests:
-Lincoln Museum and Library (the former has exhibits, the latter is mostly a working library for scholars)
-State Capitol Building (a very good one, as these things go)
-Old State House
-Executive Mansion
-Dana Thomas House (a must if you like Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture)
-Lincoln House
-Lincoln's tomb
-First Presbyterian Church (Lincoln's church, has some nice stained glass)
If you get started early and keep going all day, you should be able to see everything on this list, but it's a very full day indeed.
The Grand Army of the Republic Museum is frankly not worth a visit. And if you run into a listing for the Oliver Parks Telephone Museum, note that it's closed.
I stayed at the State House Inn (Clarion), which is about two blocks north of the capitol building. Very nice.
There's also a sandwich unique to the immediate area called a "horseshoe," a monstrously huge open-faced sandwich (can have most any kind of meat basis) usually on toast, the meat mixed with fries, and then finished with melted cheese covering the top. A "pony" or "ponyshoe" is enough for most people of normal appetite.
