We would like to take my dad to Phillies training camp this spring in Clearwater for a few days. When is the best time to go there and can any one recommend accomodations?
I'd also like to know if there is a way that my dad might get to take the field with the players just for fun. I thought maybe they had special days where they might do such things. My dad is a young 80 years old. Thanks for your help.

Although I'm a Yankees fan, I've been to a couple of the Phillies spring training games in Clearwater. (Although, it's been a few years.)
I don't know that any time is better or worse than any other time. Certainly if you wanted to see a few of their major league players it's probably better towards the middle to end of Spring Training. In the first few weeks, it's unlikely that a Pat Burrell would be in for more than an inning or two.
In terms of him going on the field, I think you probably want to contact the team directly. I don't know if you've ever been to a Spring Training game, but the players are fairly accessible and very close to the stands.
My suggestion is to try and get tickets for right behind their dugout.
