spring boat show newport

Hi. I would like to suprise my husband for his b-day by going to a boat show and there'e one in Newport at the end of May. We live in Chicago and never been to RI- I have no idea where to fly to, stay, or what the weather is like. I don't think this is going to be cheap, but I also don't want to break the bank. Help!

    My husband and I went to the boat show in September, as you may know they have it twice a year. We had a hard time finding a room, we had to stay in Warwick, which was a twenty minute drive into Newport. I live in Massachusetts, so I didn't fly, but there is a airport in Providence. As for the weather, dressing in layers is the key. It may feel really warm in town but as soon as you get near the water it can get quite cold. There is a common saying in New England, if you don't like the weather just wait a minute, the spring is especially hard to predict in New England. I am a huge fan of the Newport area and hear that Providence is a great city. I recommend you tour at least one of the mansions in Newport, my personal favorite, The Breakers. There is also a walkway that follows behind all the mansions that is open to the public. The path is filled with roses and just beautiful views of the Atlantic. The last time we were there we paid for a sail boat ride around the area, that was really enjoyable. Many fine restaurants and nice B&B's in that area, it just may be a little difficult finding a room at this late date. My husband and I will attempt to go this year, however we're close enough to make it a day trip.
