Special Inn near Stowe or Sugar Bush

I am looking for a special inn near Stowe or Sugar Bush to spend a week with my fiance. The two I've been looking into are the Pitcher Inn and the Green Mountain Inn. Has anyone had good/bad experiences? Any other recommendations?

Thanks so much,
Effie

The Pitcher Inn is a member of Relais & Chateau, an exclusive association of high-end, independently owned inns. If the Green Mountain Inn could get that membership, they would.

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at the Pitcher Inn last evening. It was exceptional. The inn is elegant.

You can easily drive between Stowe and Sugarbush (www.madrivervalley.com)

Thanks, yes, I've already done that. I'm just hoping that someone might have some current experiences to share.

Thanks gc! That's very helpful -- I couldn't tell right away whether Relais & Chateaux really distinguished one inn from another. Sounds like you had a great dinner -- and the Pitcher Inn might be worth the splurge.

Effie,

These are two very different places. The GMI has over 100 rooms, PI has 9.

Stowe is a bustling resort, crowned by Warren Miller as one of the best ski resorts in the world. Warren is a postage stamp that reeks of old money.

If you get bored easily, lean towards Stowe. If you want some quality time, an absence of traffic and silence, go with Warren and the Mad River Valley.

My fiance and I just returned from Stowe on Tuesday and we stayed at the Green Mountain Inn. It was a great place- very clean, cozy and great service. The restaurant there is very good, and the heated outdoor pool was great at night- even though it was -20 degrees! Email me if you have any questions....
