southwest road trip

We are taking a 5-7 day trip from Yuma Az., making a loop into New Mexico. There is so much to see and do, HELP! We want to skip the grand canyon this time, but hit Sante Fe and Taos. What are must see's and what can we skip? Early April trip.

Driving your own car and returning to Yuma?
Silver City has been on my bucket list for years.
The Botanical Garden, Aquarium and zoo in the west end of Albuquerque are nice. Also in the west end, are many museums in Old Town Albuquerque. Can't comment on Santa Fe or Taos.
Also to the west of ABQ you can visit a National Petroglyph Monument if you like that sort of thing.
I remember staying at a hostel type place in T or C along the bank of the Rio Grande which had hot spring fed soaking tubs. That was their best feature. Not even a WalMart in Truth or Consequences.

Give us a little more information. What are you interested in? Do you want to visit hiking sites, Ancient Native American sites, art museums, places to eat fine food, etc?

If you go to the view by state box and scroll down to New Mexico and/or Arizona you will find lots of threads for ideas.

Yes we have our own car, we are outdoor people, enjoy hiking, the desert, we love animals and wildlife. We are from the Seattle area, recently bought a house in Yuma for winter visits. We thought it would be a great place to start from to explore the southwest, thinking our loop would go from Yuma to Las Cusces, up to Alb. Santa Fe, Taos and then somehow end up in Flagstaff down to Sedona, Wickenburg. Is that too much? I guess we just don't want to miss anything outstanding. thanks

Have you been to White Sands NP, Gila Cliff Dwellings, Carlsbad Caverns, Painted desert/Petrified Forest, Canyon de Chelley, el Morro/Inscription rock, Chaco Canyon, Bandelier NM? All could be along the way, depending on what route you decide to take and all are interesting places to visit.
