I don't live in Southington, I live in Fairfield which is about an hour away. However, my favorite sheriff lives in Southington and I believe he likes it. It is in between Waterbury and Hartford. Waterbury is pretty depressing and not much going on there. However, Hartford has some nice activities (Athaneum Museum, Mark Twain's house, peforming art's center, the medical center is in Farmington, nice places to hike, etc.). I've lived in Hartford as well but I personally prefer the southern part of the state better. Are you moving there or considering it and if so, are you considering any other town's in CT?
I grew up in Meriden which is next to Southington. It is a very nice town with good schools and a reasonable cost of living. (I live in Fairfield county now - due to my daily commute to NYC - and find the cost of living outrageous!) A particularly nice section of Southington to live is in Plantsville. Southington has always struck me as a nice family-oriented town, but I must admit there is not much nightlife - you would have to go to Hartford for that.
