South San Francisco Car Rental

I'm looking to rent for a week the end of July. I have an expensive res to pick up and drop off at SFO. Avis has a location in South San Francisco on Harbor Way. Their web site says it's 1.5 miles north of SFO. The cost to pick up and drop off at this location is at least $250 cheaper than my other res. Has anyone used this location and is it easy to get to and from the airport by taxi?

I don't have experience with that location but I've picked up at in-town locations several times. Parking is so expensive in SF that it pays NOT to have a car until you need it. It's always been a simple process to walk from my hotel to one of the major rental agencies around the city and drive out with a car (usually housed in a non-descript parking garage). You save a fortune in airport fees by picking up somewhere other than the airport.

Are you staying in town at all or driving away from the city as soon as you arrive?

I'm driving north after picking up the car and will need it in town for the two days before I depart. I considered picking it up in town, but this is really cheap and extremely close to the airport. The airport fees are obscene.

Well, hopefully a SF native will respond soon.
I used google maps and the location is .2 mi from a Motel 6 (and near other hotels too). It should be easy for a taxi to find, although they may not be happy with such a short trip/low fare.

There may be hotels in the area with rental car desks in the lobby. If that were the case, you could just jump on a shuttle bus.

Have a good trip! I'm hoping to get back there in September
