SOS....Thunderstorms when we plan to visit NOLA
SOS! Rainy day ideas for 2 adults in New Orleans?
What are your recommended INDOOR activities for New Orleans? THUNDERSTORMS are forecasted for most of our visit. Sad about this! We are happy about the WW2 Museum and the Hermann - Grimma House, but what are the other worthwhile indoor activities? Is any part of the French Market indoors? Is there an advantage to purchasing tickets online before we go? THANK YOU!

French market is all under cover.
Mardi Gras World is inside and good, floats and costumes. History of mardi gras, it's fun.
Riverwalk complex on the river is all inside.
Definitely nice to have better weather, but just bring umbrella and there are lots of fun places in the Quarter to duck into when the deluge hits. And rain keeps it cooler.
Take a fun cooking class at New Orleans School of Cooking in the quarter. The man who does them is very entertaining, you get all you can drink ABITA beer in pitchers at your table that are replenished freely, and you eat lunch at end of the very fun demonstration. Highly recommend this.

I'd bring the hotel laundry bag with you in case you decide to duck into galleries. I would hate to have a wet, drippy umbrella in a shop; as would the shop owners. I know museums and other places often have bags for this purpose, but being prepared in case they don't can't hurt.

There are several museums under the Louisiana State Museum umbrella (pun not intended) in New Orleans. When we were there in December, we spent at least a couple of hours in the Presbytere which had two outstanding exhibits--one on Mardi Gras and another on Katrina.

There are still a lot of good artisans selling their handmade goods in the French market, and a lot of very good food vendors. And on Wednesdays there is a very nice farmers market where you can buy fresh fruits, cheeses, honeys, breads and pastries, that locals make and sell, along with live music, at the French Market.

Darn it, this thread just reminded me that the travel channel show Delicious Destinations visit to New. Orleans was on earlier today. My husband and I are on the show, a friend alerted us a few wks ago that he saw the show and we were on; we were interviewed while eating beignets at Cafe Du Monde last October-- while it was raining outside!
