Hi

I'm heading to sonoma from San Fran during thanksgiving week.

Is there a place to stay that's inexpensive yet close to the wineries?

Also, what is the best way to get around when you're up there. Thanks

You are going to Sonoma THIS week and are just starting to look for a room? What is your budget? "Inexpensive" is definitely a relative term in that area . . .

We would spend up to $150 a night, but we would like to be very close to the wineries

Do you have a map of the Sonoma Wineries? Have you selected which ones you'd like to visit? The wineries in Sonoma are bit more scattered than the those in Napa. Here's a map

Looking at the map maybe you can select the area you want to be based on the wineries you will visit. Once you find the area maybe it would be easier to suggest lodging.

Check out the Hotel El Dorado on the the Sonoma Square. There is also a Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn where we have stayed and it was nice there. A pool, jacuzzi, spacious rooms and also right on the square. Have a great trip! ***kim***

A Wed night through Sat night stay this week in Sonoma town for $150 is about 99% impossible at this point in time-and even at the chains, $150 won't get you
in with tax.

That said, You could try Priceline
and roll the dice for the Petaluma Sheraton-which is about a 15 min drive to Sonoma town. There is also a Motel 6
in Petaluma and a Quality Inn, yet the QI may be over your limit this weekend.

Further down the road in Santa Rosa-
you could try Priceline for the Hyatt
or the Hilton. Or wander over to
websites such as http://www.sonoma.com
or travelocity and just start dialing the phone for the national chains.

And keep your fingers crossed for a cancellation at this point ! It's a very popular time of the year to be
up here.

Try El Pueblo Inn...just google it. I don't like the Sonoma Valley Inn because they usually require two nights and their cancellation policy is absurd. Also, the staff is not nice. I think you might find that the El Dorado is more than $150. If not, that is a good choice. I don't recommend the Sonoma Hotel.

Assuming you have a car, El Pueblo (which is very nice, by the way, and includes do-it-yourself waffles for breakfast) is close to all the wineries. The Sonoma Valley has over 40 wineries in its 18 mile length.

Don't get yourself confused with "Sonoma COUNTY". That is a huge area and includes other wine venues.

If El Pueblo doesn't have any space, there are b&b's in town. Go to sonomavalley.com for the visitor's bureau. Good Luck.

We just booked a last minute trip to San Fran yesterday - we are staying one night in Napa and just got the Marriot on Solano Ave for $83.01 (including taxes) for Thursday night, 11/23 using Priceline...booked around 10 PM last night...
