Somewhere to relax for 3 days within 2 Hours of Washington DC

My wife and I will visit the US for two weeks in September. We fly into Dulles Airport. We will then spend 4 nights in Washington DC. We then plan to go to Charleston SC for a few days. Following this, we plan to make our way north towards Washington DC, perhaps spending a few days en route via the Blueridge Parkway. Towards the end of our trip, we would like to spend three days to chill out and relax, somewhere within two hours drive of Dulles airport.

Any suggestions for a nice area & hotel would be very welcome.

Thanks, Ken

within 2 hours of Dulles can vary greatly depending on direction you are coming from, day of week and time o day. It can be twice or three times as long.

When exactly is you flight home?

Berkeley Springs, WV is one good possibility.

Tari's is a nice lodging option there.

Hmmm. Well then - I assume you will want to be at the airport by 4:30pm which is in the middle of rush hour (3-7pm Mon thru Friday). Most of the traffic will be coming from DC area. So you want to avoid coming from the east and also avoid the capitol beltway.

I think Berkeley Springs will still work for you.

The Homestead Resort is a very nice resort in VA located near the WV border. It will be relaxing with good food. If you want to travel into WV, the Greenbriar is also very nice and I think has a slight edge over the Homestead with activities and such. Definitely perfect for a three day relaxing trip.

A more quaint, charming option would be the Inn at Gristmill Square in Warm Springs, Virginia (not far from the Homestead) (http://www.gristmillsquare.com/). The Inn also has a very nice restaurant. It will take more than two hours, however, to drive to Dulles from this part of Virginia.

Berkeley Springs or Shepardstown, West Virginia both offer options, too, and the drive to Dulles would be shorter.

Enjoy!
