Some questions about Salt Lake City, UT
How many days should I spend in Salt Lake City? This will be my first visit and I will not have a rental car. Will it be difficult for me to get around without a car? Also, are things in Salt Lake City closed on Saturday/Sunday? Thanks.

It's hard to say how many days you should spend in Salt Lake without knowing the purpose of your visit or the kinds of things you enjoy/want to see or the time of year. Salt Lake is easier to get around with a car, but the Trax train system and buses are relatively easy to use. Saturday pretty much everything is open. Sunday some stores are closed, but many stores and restaurants are open on Sunday, it really varies depending on the business.

When are you coming to SLC? If its this weekend, Saturday, July 24, is Pioneer Day, a statewide holiday. There will be a number of celebration events but many stores will be on holiday schedule either Friday, Saturday, or Monday or some combination thereof.

I will be in Salt Lkae City for labour day weekend or the weekend following labour day. I am interested in seeing the main tourist sights. I will be coming from Las Vegas, and my airline ticket allows me to stop in Salt Lake City. Since I have never been to SLC I thought I might spend a day or two there. Is that enough time? Thanks.

I would think a couple days would be enough if you don't have a car. Some of the best things to see are around Salt Lake not in the city, though -- beautiful canyons, and Park City with the Utah Winter Sports Park (olympic venue). I would seriously consider renting a car for your stay if that's an option.

One more question I plan on staying at the Travelodge at 144 West North Temple Street. Is this conviently located for public transport or for walking to the main tourist sights. Thanks.

For a day or two, staying in the downtown SLC area will give you plenty to do. You'll have easy access to TRAX, which will help you get around.
If you're there over the Labor Day Weekend, check out the Greek Festival, which takes place across the street from the Farmer's Market in Pioneer Park.
I lived downtown for 5 years, so a short list of favorites: walk through Temple Square and the adjacent Main Street Plaza, Gateway shopping center, City Creek Canyon, Brigham Young Historic Park. I also like Red Butte Gardens, which is located in the foothills above the University of Utah.
If you're interested in the architectural vein of things, I recommend Cathedral of the Madeleine (beautiful stained glass windows and refurbished interior), and the spectacular new public library on 400 South.
