Soldiers in need of R&R

My boyfriend and I are both active duty military. I finished my tour in Iraq recently, but he will not finish until next Feb. We'll be meeting up with each other in the states probably in Feb or Mar sometime. We would very much like to escape on a vacation somewhere in the US. Right now, green trees, B&Bs, beautiful scenery and someplace cozy sounds like the perfect remedy. Does anyone have a suggestion on where we can go? Someplace quiet would be nice too ... not a busy city. Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide!!!

mta, thanks for your service in Iraq. I hope your boyfriend gets home safely.

Where are you guys from? I was going to say a visit through the Hudson Valley in NY state, but it might be a little chilly in February. I imagine the Carolinas would be a nice place for you guys to unwind...

TwoFatFeet,
Thanks for your kind words. When my boyfriend returns, I will already be stationed in Germany. He will likely be in Arizona with his parents or on his way to Kansas for his next tour. I have been overseas for years now and, frankly, don't have a clue on where is a nice place to go in Feb/Mar timeframe. I feel like a tourist in my own country! The Carolinas sound nice. Any idea where?

If it's Feb you're going to have to go far south - like FL - to get warm weather and green grass (even Atlanta can get ice storms in winter). If you're doing late March you can head a teeny further north - perhaps south carolina.

Try searching for places in Savannah or Charleston - or even New Orleans.

mta - Glad you got out safely, hope your boyfriend does as well....How about the Southern CA coast, Del Mar, Torrey Pines, La Jolla, great scenery, nice B&Bs and good restaurants.

Or if you like a cozy fireplace while the Feb. weather outside might be wet and windy, but still a lot of green, consider Mendicino in CA or the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
Have fun.

Go to www.militaryliving.com and get one of their books about living on base (the books might be available at your BX). There are a lot of out-of-the-way bases with living quarters at a decent price. You don't have to go to a humonguous base like Camp Pendleton or Fort Bragg (just to pick a couple of biggies out of the air). The Army Reserve has bases away from the madding crowd.

Thank you, mta, for your service to our nation. Please share my thanks with your boyfriend. I will keep both of you in my prayers.

I suggest Charleston, SC with perhaps a few days out at the beach at Isle of Palms. It would be beautiful that time of year.

Another great place would be Arizona or Northern California.

Welcome home!

Thank you mta for your service.

I think southern or nothern California would be a nice choice. It can be a little rainy in Feb - but I think it might be a good r/r place.
