Just wondering how all the Fodorites in So. Cal. are holding up. My friend from Huntington Beach was in the mountains this weekend with her family, and had a delay when a two ton boulder made an escape down a hillside. She said it took 2.5 hrs. to reach a ski resort 15 minutes from their condo. Hope the rains stop soon and no more lives are lost. Very frightening.
So. Calif. coast residents- are you okay?

We're wet & soggy in San Diego, with a little flooding in some spots; but otherwise O.K.. Have already had our "average" annual rain fall.....in the last five days! For those who have plans on visiting San Diego, don't change them. Weather is suppose to clear up by Wednesday.
I'm planning a family trip to San Diego in March for our spring break. I'd like to drive down from Orange County. After things calm down, I'll start researching places to stay in La Jolla and San Diego.
Take care, J.
Took me forever to get to work this am but I can not complain, I still have my loved ones and my home.
It is pouring outside my window as I type!
Thank you for asking. The last few days have been scary especially if you live in the canyons or areas prone to flooding or in the mountains as jetset mentioned. Just trying to navigate the freeways and streets has been a challenge. And the amount of snow in Reno and Lake Tahoe, absolutely amazing.
I live in North San Diego county and it hasn't been as bad as the Los Angeles and Santa Barbara areas. Average rainfall is usually around 10 inches although for the last 5 years we have gotten about half that amount. Two years ago I think San Diego only had 3 inches of rain all year. Where I live we have had 12.5 inches of rain since right after Christmas and 3.5 inches were this Sunday. I am getting ready to go to bed now and it is pouring outside-again!!
My thoughts and prayers are with all those dealing with mudslides, flooding and snow. Things should begin to dry out here starting Wednesday.
jetset, how nice of you to ask this question. I too have been wondering.

My SIL called me from Ojai today. Ojai is south of SantaBarbara, off of Hwy 33 from 101.
They are not able to leave Oaji (Ventura County). All the roads were covered with mud or rock slides. So evidently everyone in Oaji is staying put for the moment, no way out.
Lets hope this horrible storm ends. It has been really bad. Hope all our Fodorites are safe. Best wishes to all
jetset1 - thanks for posting this question.
I am very sorry for all your troubles caused by the rain in Southern Californai. Hopefully things will return to normal soon.
Sandy
Our world has suffered a lot of natural disasters of late...a little scary.
Yes, it is truly a year to respect the earth and Mother Nature. They say these things come in cycles, but you sure wonder. It's like the saying about bad luck coming in threes.. and here I am in cold Alaska, but I'm not coping with freeway traffic and flooding and other calamities.
I told my kids not to gripe about not having enough snow. There are plenty of places we can find it this year.(It's supposed to warm up and snow later this week in Southcentral).
I hope everyone posting is safe and sound. It makes me sad to think of what is happening there. I lived in central Ca. for seven years, and covered the whole state during that time. Many fond memories of the coast, mountains, etc. J.
A litle waterlogged. I live in a safe area, but am thinking of building an ark.
We live in the San Gabriel Valley just east of Pasadena and have had no damage, just a bit of inconvenience.

We have had 30+ inches of rain since July first. Usually about 3.
The poor folks in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties have really been hit as have some areas in the Hollywood Hills.
The pictures of damage are chilling
just hoping it's over!
Our local middle school is closed, which is unheard of, and some homes in my town have been evacuated today because of an overflowing creek.
But right now the sun is out! Thank goodness!
An unbelievable picture of the La Conchita mud slide is available at www.staronline.com. I feel so bad for those people. Still like 9 people missing. I grew up in Ventura county at the top of a hill. Though we were the house at the top of the street the orchards were above us and our home was flooded from run off while my father was in the hospital with a heart attack. It is a terrible thing to have your house flooded so I can really feel for those folks.
Is the PCH open in both directions? Wondering if they're shoring up that area between Malibu and Orange County..
that La Conchita thing is really awful...so sad.
I think PCH is open from OC all the way up to LA...
I have never seen so much rain in so little time, and this is being said by someone who lived in London for 4 years.
Fortunately, the biggest of my worries have been not stepping in dog pee because my dogs won't go outside.
Ever the optimist, I am pleased to report I was blessed with two waterfalls outside my living room window and tiki room window (every house should have one), and now have that new water feature I always wanted in the back yard.
Surfergirl, you make me smile
I hope you all stay safe, this is so terrible!
Good DRY thoughts coming your way, California!!
lol, surfergirl! I can really relate about the pets
