Snow in NY for Xmas
I'm planning to to fly into New York city for Xmas and would love to have a white xmas somewhere close to NYC. Can anyone recommend somewhere where I will be guaranteed snow? I would also love some suggestions on accomodations (ie rent a house or apartment or a flash hotel somewhere).

Over the last few years, it's been hard to guarantee snow in December. You will probably find it about 2 hours north of New York in the Catskill Mountains and the Hudson Valley area. Look at towns like Rhinebeck, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Woodstock, Saugerties, and even smaller towns further up in the mountains like Phoenica.

As someone who grew up in the Hudson valley (Poughkeepsie area), there's no gaurantee that there will be snow. I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that there will be snow on the ground. It's likely that it will have snowed sometime in December, but you'll see more piles of half melted brown slush than a nice fresh coating. If you want snow for sure, you'll have to go up into the ski areas in the Catskills, Berkshires or Vermont.

Hi Clare:
No guarantee on snow in NYC! But I know you can "see Snow" at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills!. They start making "man-Made" stuff starting in November...but I guess it is not quite the same as the real thing!! But for skiers, we take what we can get!!
