Snow concerns!

My wife and I are planning to visit our daughter who is currently serving in eastern Iowa with Americorps. We would travel from our home in Eugene via I-84 and I-80. Neither of us is familiar with this route beyond where I-84 leaves Idaho and heads into Utah. Nor do we know what the likelihood is of encountering significantly bad weather -- snow, in particular -- on these highways in late September and early October. If anyone could give us advice about the weather and other conditions for such a trip, it would be greatly appreciated.

Extremely unlikely at those times. Don't worry.

Even if it snows, they'll be gone very soon.

Of course, a surprise snowstorm can happen anytime, but as the above post mentioned, your chances of running into snowstorms in late Sept. or early October are extremely rare.

We've driven to IA several times at different times of the year since my wife is from there. East of the Rockies it's very rare to encounter snow problems before 2nd or 3rd week of November. In the higher elevations, you might run into some snow but it shouldn't be a problem. Of course, now that all of us have told you that....

You shouldn't have one speck of trouble on I-80. Of course, stranger things have happened, so check weather.com before you leave.
