This reminds me of the fact that a good friend of mine was walking down the sideway out on an errand one day when an elderly woman asked him for help. It seems she locked her keys in her car and was late for a critically important appointment. After trying unsuccessfully to get the car door open, she finally asked my friend to just go ahead and break the car window with a brick. He resisted but she practically begged him to do it - so finally he did.
Of course she then immediately proclaimed "Oh my God, this is not my car!" and sure enough a few parking spaces away sat an identical car. About this time a policeman came along and asked what was going on. As my friend tried to explain, the old lady quietly slipped away, into her car and drove off - leaving my friend in a very uncomfortable situation with a WHOLE LOT of explaining to do (and of course no one to back up his story).
Of course the whole thing was a set-up and it turned out that he was on "Totally Hidden Video". As the cast and crew admitted this, a pit crew showed up to quickly fix the broken window and "reset the trap".
My friend continued on his way to run his errand. As he was returning he passed the site again, and sure enough the little old lady was trying to get into her car with another "mark".
We still laugh about it!

A stash of explosives was found under a part of the Chicago el train post-9/11. A regular Joe found it. So, don't know if cameras would have helped there.
But, cameras are all over many of the major landmarks in Chicago especially after 9/11.
The Hancock was surveyed by a suspicious character in the summer of 2001, pre-9/11. He was in the area of the condos trying to figure out the ventilation system in the hallways leading to individual units.
Cameras were installed in all of the Hancock's condo elevators to catch -- which they did -- a man who was carving swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases into the wood panels. That was in 1996, though, if my memory serves me correctly.
So, who knows... Just hope nothing horrible happens to Chi-town or anywhere else for that matter.

Wow! That means there's probably a fuzzy video out there of my husband and me getting cozy! hee hee... Luckily, not THAT cozy, but still... had no idea there were that many.
Can you believe I have not ridden the bus in years? I am officially a suburbanite now... but a city girl at heart who just happens to need a garden. Travelin' to Geja's this November for my annual fondue fix.
BTW, chicgal, if you're not already working for Mayor Daley, there's a job waiting for you if you ever want it! You're very knowledgeable about Chicago happenings, etc. and I think a certain amount of tourism here must be attributed to you. I actually make my husband read your advice sometimes. LOL!

LOL! Even I wouldn't want to see *that* tape let alone pay good money for it, by golly! Luckily it doesn't exist. Whew!
I have a feeling that someday, everyone will forget how much Millenium Park cost and be patting ourselves on the back for having the foresight to see big. "Make no small plans" and such.
Good advice, though, IMO.

This is interesting, but even if cities don't put up cameras everywhere, you could still be filmed at any time by a person walking by with a camera-cell phone. Who knows how many freaks out there are filming us as we go about our daily lives? Sorry if I made everyone feel worse. Oh, and wsoxrebel, Millenium Park is a very expensive park that the mayor of Chicago built for some unprecedented amount of money that was very controversial to the city of Chicago.

Ahh, Millennium Park is a beautiful oasis in downtown Chicago ~ we absolutely loved it! It has a concert pavillion, a childrens' fountain, a cafe, and interesting sculptures. BTW, how much DID it cost?
The cameras remind me of when the boroughs in NYC installed cameras at certain intersections to 'catch' and ticket those who ran red lights. Lots of people were upset about getting caught including DFI. He was especially upset that it was not a very good picture of him

Back when I had braces in junior high, a very friendly group of Japanese visitors to Seattle asked me to pose for them so they could take pictures of my braces! They must've been a group of dentists b/c they were really getting up close to my mouth. I still get a good chuckle out of that.
