Small Kauai Hotel/Condo?

I am interested in finding a small unique hotel in Kauai for our trip in April. I would prefer a place right on the beach. I am looking for something that is not the typical Hyatt, Marriott, etc. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Although not right on the beach..we rented a sweet small house (studio) with lanai, kitchen and washer and dryer in Anini Beach through Anini Beach Cottages.com.
It was in walking distance to the beach and removed from alot of "the stuff" on Kauai. It is on the northeastern shore. They have a website..check it out.

We stayed at Whalers Cove on Kauai right on the ocean. It was not on a beach though. We stayed in Building 1 second floor. Nothing between us and the ocean. We always had the pool and jacuzzi to ourselves. Was very private. There are only 36 luxury units in this complex. Reserved through Suite Paradise for a lower rate but have seen unit owners rent for less.

April is rainy season so that almost restricts you to poipu area. Gloras B&B looks nice. It is ocean front and has some stunning views.

Hotel Coral reef is definitely very ordinary and not that great. More a place for the extremely cost conscious. There are more condo resorts than small unique hotels on the beach on Kauai. The suggestion for Whalers Cove, a condo complex, is a good one, albeit a bit on the expensive side. Small complex, great location, upscale, great oceanfront.

check out Hanalei colony Resort (hcr.com I believe). It is way up on the N. shore, right on the beach. not really a swimming beach, but beautiful for walking. have stayed there twice and really enjoyed it. the units have a full kitchen and there are no tvs so it is very quiet and peaceful.

Compared to Hyatts etc the Aston Islander on the Beach on the east side is small. It's also friendly & good value, we loved it.
Have a great trip, I wish .....
