We are interested in taking a long weekend and driving the Skyline Drive. Our current reservations are for mid-October, but we wondered if that is too early to enjoy the fall foliage? We were interested in that weekend because of the "Festival of Leaves" in Front Royal. Has anyone ever been to this festival?
Thanks for any feedback you can give me!!

Hi dmpalena:
I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains and all I can say is "maybe." Last year leaves peaked at the end of October so there was plenty of gorgeous color in mid-Oct.
Lately we haven't had much rain so leaf change might start early and not be particularly bright.
Enjoy the beautiful Va mountains!
