Silverthorne or West Denver Hotel??

I am in need of a place to stay for one night mid April. We arrive in Denver at 8pm and can't check in to our hotel unitl the next day. I want to use a Starwood property. Any thoughts on Four Points by Sheraton Silvertorne vs. Sheraton Denver West. I wonder if the Silverthorne property is a bit too far from the airport if conditions are icy - and is the Deraton Denver West actually on the way to Breckenridge? Thanks in advance. Babs

In mid-April it will be unlikely it will be icy on the way to Silverthorne. It is about an hour and a half drive to Silverthorne. "Denver West" would have to be en route to Breckenridge.

babs not clear from your post where the hotel is that you can't check into. if it is in breck, you'll want to shlep to silverthorne and flop it there for a night, because when you wake up you wont have any drive at all to get to the hill (assuming that you'll be in breck)the next morning. Sheraton Denver West is right off I70 in Golden. It is on the way, but as pointed out by gretchen, you're still looking at a long haul in the a.m. to me, the night before is already a "travel day" so why not go then! -- even if it snows that day, you should be okay to drive it at night barring a major spring storm (there's usually one or two in early april).

Denver West is on the way to Summit County. After leaving DIA, you head west on I70. Denver West is still in the metro area, about 15-20 miles from DIA. Silverthorne is another 60 miles west on I70. The Breckenridge exit is about 5 miles west of Silverthorne on I70.

I suggest stay overnight in Denver, and then drive up in the daylight the following day.

Yes, we are on way to Brecknridge to stay at the Grand Timber. We booked at the Denver West, but am still thinking about switching and trying to get to Silverthorne that first evening.

Flethcer, really personal preference, me I would go to Silverthorne and wake up on vacation! If your going to be driving on a Sat or Sun to Breck then for sure make the drive the eve before. It can be horrific traffic on weekend days. It should take you less than 2 hours from the airport at night to Silverthorne, probably closer to an hour and a half. Really by time you get to Denver West it's only another hour to Silverthorne.
